Simple present tense adalah salah satu tense yang menggunakan keterangan waktu sekarang/saat ini. Penggunaan kalimat present tense ini untuk menunjukkan :
1. Kegiatan sehari-hari
Present tense digunakan untuk menunjukkan kegiatan sehari-hari.
Contoh:
I wake up at 5 am every morning.
We don't go to office every Saturday and Sunday.
She brings notebook every week.
He buys a breakfast every day.
2. Fakta umum
Menunjukkan fakta yang kebenarannya tidak dapat dipungkiri lagi.
Contoh:
Independence day of Indonesia is 17 August.
1 minute is 60 seconds.
The sun shines in the east and sets in the west.
Indonesia is an archipelago country.
The water flows from the high to lower place.
3. Kebiasaan
Menyatakan kegiatan yang dilakukan berulang-ulang.
Contoh:
He always eats his lunch in the canteen.
We usually pray before start our activity.
They go to office by bus together.
My father never smokes a cigar.
I always drink a cup of milk in the morning.
Keterangan yang dapat digunakan untuk kalimat present tense yaitu : always, usually, often, seldom, never, ever, sometimes, everyday, every week, every month, every morning, dll.
